“Silence is essential. We need silence, just as much as we need air, just as much as plants need light. If our minds are crowded with words and thoughts, there is no space for us.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Silence; A hightly underestimated tool for growth. In my humble opinion.
We live in an age where silence is almost hard to come by. We are bombarded with sounds and other impressions and activities. 24/7 if we’re not careful and paying attention to our choices.
As an introvert I crave silence in order not to lose ME. I do however believe that the most extroverted people out there will also benefit greatly from consciously choosing silence. It may just happen you pick up a message or two from soul.
Do you occasionally have to go live in a cave? No, no. Much simpler than that:
Breathe deeply, relax and choose to be PRESENT. Because silence does not necessarily mean the absence of sound.
Fade whatever is going on around you (depending on the situation) and go within.
There is of course much more to be said about this but I will just add to it that seeking complete silence, perhaps with the exception of the soothing sounds from nature, makes all the difference in the world for ME.
That is when messages can come through. Insights. Inspiration.
That is when I breathe more deeply. That is when I expand. When I connect more deeply to my body. And as a result of it all: Feel centered and invigorated
How about you?
Are your day to day life completely filled with sounds and other impressions and activities?
Do you ever consciously choose silence (and rest) as a way of taking care of and honouring YOU?
